Surf Sistas - Cornwall Improver Surf Weekend Review

Image
This review is special one because not only are Surf Sistas a dream to holiday with, BUT, this trip was where Kat’s Surf Forecasts came about. Finishing a glorious surf with the girls, I decided to share my idea of the channel and there and then we filmed the first clip that featured on my first ever YouTube video. Lucy - you are the best. Why do I choose the Surf Sistas Improver Weekend? Having already been on a trip to France with the lovely ladies, it wasn’t hard to chose to go back with them for a more local, confidence building weekend. I had just bought my first surfboard too - an 8ft Torq named Koko and wanted to improve my turtle rolling so that I felt more comfortable paddling outback at one of my local’s beaches!  Where?  The weekend took place at the famous surfing beach Fistral Beach, Newquay. Luckily for me this is just a short hour and a bit away, but Surf Sistas have nailed it by including coach travel from London Victoria on Friday even...

UK Pro Surf Tour - Night Surf at Fistral Beach

Image
"I was on a live feed with a Stephanie Gilmore Roxy advert shown just before me!' @markusbrownphoto Wowweee, I think this has been the highlight of my journey so far - let's take a step back and I'll explain!  A few weeks ago (depending when you are reading this) I had one of those notifications on my Facebook that I just couldn't get rid of, you know the ones that just get lost somewhere in the universe. Digging a little deeper, it was in fact a message from the team at UK Pro Surf Tour who had sent me a lovely message asking for a surf forecast for their Night Surf competition. Ekk...Not only that but they offered me the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the competition at Fistral Beach and even go live on the evening feed with the amazing commentators - Lee and Sam.  I decided to make the most of this amazing opportunity and booked myself an Air bnb on Friday night to meet the team and see what I was getting involved ...

Surf Total - Feature

Image
"Your vlog has a relaxed format and is an example of the innumerable possibilities of how the presentation of the surf forecast can be seen, at a time when the modality is on the rise." Now this one needed a good old google translate and my FBI hat on. Checking my view stat's on YouTube, I noticed an influx of views on an oldish video all coming from an external site 'Surftotal.com'. Going onto the website, it was all in Portuguese but if you go to the UK translate then half the links are gone... so it was time to be detective Kat and find out what drove the viewers to my channel!  Facebook did me proud once again where I had spotted my name with a link attached to an article. Using google translate, the article was titled English surfer creates surf forecasting channel on YouTube. If you have a Portuguese friend to translate the article that would be handy; or lit you're like me, copy and paste into Google Translate to have a read! https://surft...

Grow Exeter Magazine - Wave Project

Image
"The girls are quick to joke about the cheesiness of the Wave Project bringing them together, but the firm friendship that they have cemented through volunteering together is evident." Any opportunity to promote the Wave Project and I'm there! Katie, our South Devon co-ordinator, asked my best friend, Issy and I to sit and chat with Grow Exeter magazine, to chat on our experience being a volunteer. We opted straight for the sunny sits in Puerto Lounge, along Exeter Quay where we met Sofy, the author for the article. We were free to talk about both our experiences, reminding each other of some amazing times over the past year and quite frankly I'm amazed at how Sofy kept track of what we were rambling about! What a beautifully written article and I hope it spreads to the rest of Exeter to see some new volunteers join us soon!   Come have a read here: https://grow-media.co.uk/top-stories/south-devon-wave-project-highs-lows-wipeouts-volunteering/...

Wave Project Vlog

We love it as much as she enjoys volunteering. “I love my Sundays with the amazing charity and feel inspired.”  If you are new to my channel you may not be aware of my love for The Wave Project - a charity all based around Surf Therapy for young people . I have been a volunteer with the South Devon Wave Project crew for over a year now and decided it was time to share my amazing experience with others!!  The vlog that is on my channel has been shared on their blog/website and I hope it will inspire as many of you as possible to get involved in the charity! Enjoy!   https://www.waveproject.co.uk/kats-surf-forecast-wave-project-vlog/

Featured in Surfer Dad - 4 alternatives to Magic Seaweed

Image
Tune in now, before Kat disappears to present the weather on Sky News. Surfer Dad is a blog written by...well...Surfer Dad. A blog dedicated to all things surfing by a wave starved father living in Cornwall. Now this  feature was a pretty cool one; titled '4 alternatives to Magic Seaweed', I was pretty shocked when Surfer Dad asked me for a few lines to include on his recommendations! Now I love MSW - the way they have made surf data so accessible and readable for anyone is brilliant, however it doesn't mean it's the only source of data as highlighted by Surfer Dad's article here !  Thank you Surfer Dad for the feature and I hope you get to surf as much as possible this summer!  Have a read:  alternatives-magic-seaweed

Surf Girl Magazine interview

Image
What’s your favourite weather joke or motto?  “You have to put up with the rain to see the rainbow!” photo by Megan Hemsworth @Mother Ivy's Bay I have never been good at writing, nor am I fan of reading - in fact , I don't even think I finished reading my GCSE English literature book before going into the exam. So when I received a direct message on Instagram from Surf Girl magazine asking for an interview, instead of my first thought being 'OMG ek' it was... 'Oh god... please can someone sense check what I write before I send my answers off'.  (Actually this seems quite rich now I'm writing a blog post on it... but hey bare with!) I honestly was so nervous waiting for the questions. I have no idea why but then when the questions arrived in my inbox I couldn't wait to get writing and share my journey with others! Thank you Surf Girl Magazine for featuring me on your website and Instagram feed - a truly inspiring magazine full of all thin...
